Mission Manduhai 2024 Report

Mission Manduhai traveled to Mongolia from August 19- September 9, 2024. There were a total of nine travelers this year, the most ever. Annie McEwen, Alex Holland, Aiden Ryan Bowman, Maria  Schlegel, Ellen  Erickson, Marcus  Villarreal and Chimgee  Haltarhuu performed, with tour manager Jenna Ober and assistant Mel Branco Bowman.

During the first two days in Mongolia we rehearsed at Pyramid Circus School in UB, and prepared for the tour. We practiced with the Mongolian performers. Enkh-Undral  performed hand balancing with Annie and juggling with Chimgee and Aiden. Mandah was the clown. We also had Dulguun, a social worker/psychologist from NCAV, and three drivers, for a total of 15 travelers. We also had one dancer for part of the tour, Aizada Yernar.

On day two we also did a street performance, where we handed out flyers; and visited the NCAV women’s shelter, where we performed, gave gifts, and also gave the funding for the Mission Manduhai Hotline for 2024.

We packed 3 vehicles, two cars and one van, with the supplies for the tour, and early morning day three we began the tour, which lasted 10 days. MM performed in 11 villages total, and we were excited to see that NCAV had five different types of flyers to hand out. One was even a card game, where children would learn info about domestic abuse to win the game. It was very popular!

The first couple days of the tour our performers acclimated to Mongolian culture. They loved the Mongolian food and were fine with sleeping on the floor of the performing stages and in school dorms, and sport complexes, but what took some getting used to was using the outhouses, without running water, and also, finding showers was difficult.

Before we flew back home, the MM performers attended the Mongolian Contortion Convention in Ulaanbaatar. They performed their aerial act, made friends, and learned contortion skills. It was a very successful MM 2024!
